I had already filled out this questionnaire before, but when I changed the layout, I accidentally deleted the file, so now I'm doing it again—yay!

My apologies if some of my answers sound harsh or rude—it's just me and my mind.

1. Please introduce yourself.: Hi, I’m Vicki, a person.
2. How long have you been making websites?: Since August 2024.
3. And what got you into the hobby?: I think it was because I saw an image of a Neocities page on Pinterest that caught my eye; from there, I started learning more about HTML and CSS, and that’s how it all began.
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?: Honestly, anything that catches my eye—I generally like personal blogs, everyday experiences, anecdotes, questionnaires—nothing complicated; I’m a person with simple tastes.
5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?: I don’t really like planning anything, to be honest; I just picture what I want in my head and go with the flow from there. That said, there’s a lot of trial and error, and I go through many iterations before settling on a layout I like.
6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.: Honestly, I don't have one. There are lots of things that inspire me, but right now there isn't a single website that inspires me.
7. What's your favourite part about making websites?: Fill it with content—I also like to decorate and customize it to my liking.
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?: Sticking with one layout for a long time, because I'm very fickle, but I've accepted myself as I am and have come to terms with it.
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?: Back when I first started, I used to have a different layout for each page, but now—unless it's something specific—I prefer to use a single layout for everything, because it's so much easier to maintain.
10. How confident are you with CSS?: Hmm, I'd say I'm pretty confident. Maybe there are still a lot of things I need to learn, but compared to when I started, I'm doing much better at it now.
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?: Yes, I guess.
12. What is your favourite HTML element?: article, section, details… because I like having content on my website, but I also like the hr, figure, img, h1, h2, h3 tags… To be honest, I like a lot of them
13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?: Think about how I'll design the header; based on the header, I'll create the entire look and feel of the page.
14. Do you know JavaScript?: Very little, and I avoid using JavaScript on my website as much as possible—it doesn't interest me enough. There might be a few things here and there that use JavaScript, like the guestbook, but really, everything I need can be done with HTML and CSS.
15. How about PHP?: Nope, this one catches my eye a little more, but I'd need time to learn it, and honestly, even though I have time, I'm really lazy lol.
16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?: Stars, a little nostalgia here and there, but always stars.
17. Are you more focused on content or design?: Both, because... why not? But really, my layout is very simple, so I don't spend much time changing the CSS file; so for now, I'd say content.
18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?: It doesn't catch my attention right now.
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?: That's a tough question because, in general, I'm pretty nostalgia-focused. First of all, I really like it when these kinds of pages are well-made—in the sense that they feel like they’re from a specific era. However, it’s a little sad when many of these pages are just purely aesthetic and are limited to an index and an “About Me” page; this is pretty common on Neocities. And I guess it’s not a bad thing, you know—everyone does what they want—but a little bit of content wouldn’t hurt.; Second, I’ve also come across people who get annoyed that younger folks—like Gen Z—are reusing aesthetics from the old web, especially the more amateurish looks, because they’re not authentic; they’re romanticizing things they never experienced, and blah blah blah. I’m not part of this generational war, and I don’t think it’s that deep—just let the kids do what they want.; And third, when we talk about “retro-focused,” I imagine we’re talking about a more ’90s or early 2000s aesthetic. Well, personally, I’m more into the mid-2000s to the 2010s because that’s the era I lived through and have memories of. In general, I think the content is more important to me in these situations, regardless of the aesthetic—as long as I like the content, I’ll be engaging with it.
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?: I think so. I always try to run it through a formatter anyway, because the Beautify extension that comes with my code editor adds unnecessary slashes at the end of certain lines, and that's just annoying.
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?: I love them! People should use them—seriously, I don't know, I just love it—it's like having the essence of your site on an 88x31 px area. The banners, the fake ads—I love all of that!
22. What do you think of button walls in particular?: I think that if they're on a separate page, or maybe a small section of the index, that's fine, but having a lot of buttons alongside a lot of other things can sometimes be overwhelming, and who knows, it might even slow down the website.
23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?: Phew, something totally different—my first website had horrible colors and was super, super ugly. It wasn't even that it was intentionally ugly; it was just plain ugly, ugly, ugly.
24. Are you envious of other people's websites?: No, la envidia no es buena, I love my website
25. What text editor do you use?: Phoenix Code
26. Why do you use that one?: I don't know, the truth is that one day I downloaded it and got used to it, but now they've added an AI tool that turns it into VSCode 2.0, and I've been thinking about switching, because, what a pain. I tried using Notepad++ pero la mente no me da para eso, and I used to use VSCode, but not anymore—not for any specific reason, I just like being a hater from time to time.
27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?: This is funny, because for a long time I was uploading everything to Filegarden or Catbox—I think that's what it's called, I'm not sure, something with cats. The thing is, I don't know where I heard that you had to upload images, GIFs, etc., to a separate hosting service, and I believed that for almost two years, but then I realized what I was doing and was like, girl? Who started those rumors, I don’t know, but it’s so much better to upload images and other stuff to your own site. I still use Filegarden btw, for MP4 files because I don’t have Neocities Premium.
28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?: Is this for real? Is the debate here in the room with us? In my opinion, Neocities has a lot of problems, but even so, I feel it’s bigger and a little more user-friendly than Nekoweb, you could say. Nekoweb is a bit much for me. I like the guestbook, Atabook—maybe the best guestbook I’ve seen so far—because it’s a little more customizable than the rest, but honestly, I feel like there’s just too much going on. That option to add a custom thumbnail has caused me problems because they often get in the way so much that I can’t navigate to another page, and overall, aesthetically, it doesn’t really appeal to me, plus I find it much harder to interact with people there—I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but I’m speaking from experience because I was on Nekoweb for a while—a month—but I was there.
29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?: Using 3.6% (35.63 MB) of your 1 GB storage. Eso dice
30. Do you keep local backups of your files?: I do everything locally.
31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?: Look, right now my taste is pretty simple. I like visually rich websites—don't get me wrong—but sometimes I just can't read anything because it feels overwhelming: too many shortcuts, too many elements. Sorry, guys. Still, whenever it's something more artistic—like a portfolio, etc.—I love seeing when they're super creative.
32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?: Vibrant colors—purple, blue, pink, green, orange, yellow, etc.—anyone who knows me knows that I run away from very dull or dark colors (that goes for you, green and dark red).
33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?: Yes, but that's because I'm lazy
34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?: I follow people on Neocities, but it's generally a solitary hobby :(
35. Do people in your real life know about your website?: Yes, my mum and friends
36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?: When I remember that I have a website
37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?: Yeah, but that's just how I am
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?: I guess if it's “me-focused,” it's also “hobby-focused,” right? I'd say it's “me-focused,” but I also talk about other things besides myself.
39. Do you do web design professionally?: No
40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?: I've done a few things related to this for university, but it doesn't really interest me, especially if it's something super corporate.
41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?: To me, email is just a way to get unnecessary notifications and spam. To be honest, I don't like email; I prefer to communicate through the guestbook or my Neocities profile.
42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?: Instagram, but only for college stuff and when I need to share something important; other than that, I don't use it at all.
43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?: WhatsApp, because one way or another, I have to communicate.
44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?: K-pop and whatever's playing on my playlist
45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?: One is more than enough for me
46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?: Many, I guess.
47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?: I try to be as genuine as possible; otherwise, I wouldn't feel comfortable.
48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?: Not yet
49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?: No, I hate them
50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?: Neon background and neon text. Not putting a warning that your site contains a lot of moving images or flashy graphics. Disabling right-clicking—seriously? Just my opinion.
51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?: Check your site on other browsers or devices. Often, what looks good on one browser or device doesn't translate to another. It's fine if it looks good on your primary device and browser, but it might appear broken on others.
52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?: I used to be generic, but now I'm semantic.
53. Do you consider different browsers?: Yup
54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.: Firefox—I've been using it for as long as I can remember, and it's really just as much corporate crap as other browsers, but at least they have a logo with a cute little fox.
55. And what OS are you on?: Windows 11, I know, I'm so basic, but what can I do? Oh! and Kubuntu
56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?: I just happen to use it
57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?: Yes, this new layout is mobile-friendly, but I’ll always prefer desktop mode. I made it mobile-friendly mainly for my friends who use their phones most of the time, and I try to keep it simpler than the desktop version so it’s more practical. I think the complexity of a mobile-friendly website depends on your desktop layout—the more complicated it is on desktop, the harder it is to adapt it for mobile—but in general, making a responsive website isn’t as hard as people make it out to be, or at least that’s how I see it.
58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?: Disrespectful, the least a person can do is post a warning about this.
59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?: I feel like a lot of webrings are just random websites with nothing in common. Until not too long ago, there was a Spanish-language webring that I thought was worthwhile because the indie web—especially Neocities—is very English-focused, in my opinion, but the webmaster deleted his page if I remember correctly, and well, the webring disappeared too. In general, they don't really catch my attention.
60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?: They don't catch my attention, because that would mean keeping up with too many pages, and my laziness won't let me do that.
61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?: I guess—a home page, an “About” page, a guestbook, the usual stuff—but I still like to think I have my own unique style.
62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?: I don't know, I don't really think about it much.
63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?: Yes, I design everything—or at least most of the assets on my site.
64. What are your favourite resource sites?: HTML Colors—I don't use many resources, maybe MDN Docs as well, but that's about it; I don't know much.
65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?: Changing the layout frequently
66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?: Be yourself, yay! how corny ik but it's really true—be yourself, be authentic, don't be afraid.
67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?: Sometimes I throw a style= in my HTML here and there, but generally I keep all the essentials in a stylesheet.
68. What do you think of frameset layouts?: Ni idea
69. How about table-based layouts?: A little outdated, but I guess it's all about the vibe.
70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?: Two columns are more than enough for me
71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?: HTML these days
72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.: No, interestingly enough, I always start with CSS.
73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?: Only when I have to
74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?: I don't know, I guess it depends on the language. For HTML and CSS, I'd say I'm at an intermediate level, but for JavaScript, I don't think I even have a level there.
75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?: If something catches my attention and I want to know how that person did it

77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?: I try to do it as little as possible
78. Thoughts on floating elements?: “Floating” as in the “float” property? I use this property quite a bit. Now, as for actually floating... well, I guess they're just there, floating.
79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?: Since the layout is responsive, I mostly use %, but I also use px for some things.
80. Do you have a favourite font?: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial—I'm a sans serif girl.
81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?: No, I'm too complicated
82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?: Sometimes when I have time
83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?: Yeah, I actually have a section with other pages, and well, if someone bookmarked mine, the first thing I'd ask is what they liked about my site.
84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?: I don't know—maybe my vibe, or I don't really know, maybe my vibe seems negative idk; I haven't thought about it.
85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?: I have a collection of Apple devices—though I wouldn't really call it a collection; I just happen to have them.

87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?: Young adults like me, I guess.
88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?: Sounds like a p*rn site, is that HTML evil twin or something?
89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?: Nop
90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?: I hear they're really cool and all, but it's a learning curve that my mind isn't ready to go through just yet
91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?: No. They don't catch my attention, and I get the feeling they're inaccurate.
92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?: Reddit from time to time.
93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?: I write in a document, run it through an HTML converter, and then copy and paste it. I guess it's not the most intuitive way, but I'm used to it.
94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?: I don't know how this question relates to being a webmaster, but I don't know—I don't really think about it that much.
95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?: I have felt a bit embarrassed by my old work, but I often don't delete it because, even though it's cringey, I was happy when I made it. Cringey but happy.
96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?: Archived most likely
97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?: I don't know, maybe I'm revealing too little, maybe I'm revealing too much...
98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?: I don't have one
